An Editorial Introduction to the Return of The Zion Standard Weekly

There are seasons in the life of a church when memory must become mission.

This Lenten season, as the Church enters a time of reflection, repentance, and renewal, we also reclaim a sacred instrument of connection — The Zion Standard Weekly.

Before the long-running official organ, Star of Zion, was established in 1876, the A.M.E. Zion Church spoke boldly to its people through earlier publications that shaped thought, sharpened faith, and unified a growing movement. Among them stood the Zion Standard and Weekly Review, produced in New York to inform and unite members, to disseminate church news, theological instruction, and community commentary.

It was edited by Rev. S.T. Jones — later Bishop Singleton T. Jones — whose editorial stewardship proved that the Black pulpit and the Black press were twin pillars of liberation.

Other denominational voices emerged as well. The Zion Church Advocate in Washington, D.C., chronicled church life and civic engagement in the nation’s capital. These papers were not merely ink and paper; they were instruments of spiritual formation, abolitionist courage, and denominational unity.

Out of those early efforts grew the enduring Star of Zion, which continues faithfully today as the principal official publication of the African Methodist Episcopal Zion Church, offering news, commentary, and global updates to a worldwide communion.

But history is not only to be remembered — it is to be continued.

February 26, 2026, falls within the sacred observance of Lent — a season of recalibration and return. In an era defined by digital noise, fractured attention, and rapid technological change, the Church must once again anchor its voice in disciplined, thoughtful, Spirit-led journalism.

The rebirth of The Zion Standard Weekly is not a replacement for existing denominational publications. It is a complementary revival — recognizing the deep need for a "Black Church Revival" and "Black Church Revivalist"

It is a digital-forward, spiritually grounded weekly edition designed to:

• Provide theological reflection for contemporary believers

• Highlight local and global Zion ministries

• Engage young adults and emerging leaders

• Address social justice with moral clarity

It one paragraph, I defeated the total argument of “Grand Sheik” Taharka Bey, who talked for nearly two hours with opinions and perspectives, who never once quoted the literature brought by Noble Drew Ali.  No Koran, no 101s, no Questionnaire, no Divine Constitution and Bylaws. He shared no perspectives from Noble Drew Ali’s writings or articles about Masonry- NONE! He shared his opinion

Why should the opinion of “Grand Sheik” Taharka  Bey matter – at all?

In addition, lets ask some additional questions. Since Taharka likes to critique others and not “teach the teachings”, maybe it is long overdue that he be critiqued?

1)      Who made you a Grand Sheik of the Moorish Science temple of America? What is their name? How can they be contacted?

2)      What is your educational background or what education and training did you go through to become a Grand Sheik in the Moorish Science Temple of America that prepared you to become lead a Temple.

3)      Can we hear from your temple members about your good works?

4)      Where does your authority come from?

5)      Who vouches for you and your good works in the community?

6)      Do you have any publications, books, essays, or any writings that you have published?

7)      Where is your temple located? Where can we come to attend meetings in person?

Additionally, I am convinced that Taharka Bey does not do his own research and I will tell you how I know. I listed to him for one hour and fifty eight minutes and it was one of the worst scholarly presentations I have ever witnessed in my life. For each point he attempted to make with pictures and book references, all he could provide was his opinion. 

He gave no references for the books he showed and never once quoted the teachings of Prophet Noble Drew Ali. He never mentioned the 101s or Koran Questions, never once did he quote the Koran of the Moorish Science Temple of America, not the Divine Constitution or Bylaws, he simply gave his opinion. The real question may be- who cares what his opinion is? Why does his opinion matter?

He is an under achiever with no works discussing the works of what real men have accomplished. I view him as one that is struggling with jealousy. He stands on the sideline and provides his opinion. He is no scholar, yet acts more like a 'Court Jester'. His scholarship is absent, he has difficulty reading passages that he himself provides, he talks in circles, and at one point referred to himself and others by saying “we’re the planet people.”

Spending any time at all listening to Moorish World TV is likely to stunt your mental growth and to cause confusion in your mind. Taking advice from under achievers who have nor reputable works, no alliances, no partnerships, no publications, and no physical following …. Why would one do that?

Moorish World TV is like “the inquirer” or the gossip column. It's like the Jerry Springer Show hiding in Moorish Garb. Moorish World TV is worst than Young and the Restless, Days of Our Lives, and All My Children. It’s worse than Geraldo. Moorish World TV is guilty of false advertising.

In 1966, Haiti welcomed one of the most symbolic black figures of the world. For the occasion, François Duvalier (left) had public settings redecorated in Port-au-Prince to match the national colours of Ethiopia. While Selassie was met with much euphoria in the capital, some historians maintain that François Duvalier attempted to put forward a new foreign policy agenda with such visit. Aware of his illness and of his regime’s unpopularity with foreign leaders, Duvalier was eager to accord diplomatic recognition to newly independent African states and to establish cordial ties with leaders of the continent in hopes of proving some consistency with his Noirist ideology and to demonstrate that his administration did possess some alignment beyond its professed anti-communism.

The Zion Church of the Evangelical Association Prophesies the Rise of Haiti in 2024

Claims Revelation by the Holy Spirit the Lord

On January 19^th, 2024, it was revealed by ‘The Holy Spirit the Lord’ that “Haiti will rise in 2024”, according to the one hundred- and forty-eight-year-old Zion Church of the Evangelical Association- a small family church ordained by the 15^th consecrated Bishop of the AME Zion Church, Bishop J.J. Moore. In accord with this revelation on January 14^th, 2024, the Jerusalem AME Zion church in Tuscaloosa, Alabama was declared and consecrated a religious holy site ‘the Jerusalem AME Zion Temple” (Revelation 3:7-13) by clergy, and on January 19^th, 2024, the Haitian Island Sans-Souci Palace was declared and consecrated as a religious holy site ‘The Royal Palace’ (2 Chronicles 7:11-22) by clergy.

The Zion Church of the Evangelical Association is currently headquartered out of a family home (the Heritage House) in Dayton, Ohio and led by Yahashua Bin IsraEL, also known as Hashim Ali Jabar. Jabar is also the Dean of the family school (First Zion Sabbath School) and Custodian of the family library – the Bishop J.J. Moor Zion Family Library, and a member of the Rev Dr. Isaiah Henri Harrison Moore and Elizabeth B. Ervin Priesthood. The Zion Church of the Evangelical Association also leads the Lunar Visitor online periodical.

This revelation comes more than ten years after a devastating earthquake that further weakened Haiti’s struggling nation and economy, and amidst a new civil unrest and government crisis on the island. Haiti is known internationally as one of the poorest nations in the world, but additionally it holds a reputation of strength, heritage, and liberty. The successful Haitian revolutions in the early 1800’s sent shock waves throughout the western world of colonialism and slavery and gave hope to the many enslaved Africans that did not have any.

Despite the authoritarian rulership that Haiti has been under over the years, the people of Haiti received personal visits from two Messianic figures- in 1966 and in 2011. Ethiopian Emperor HIM Haile Selassie I visited Ethiopia on his World Friendship Tour and the Honorable Minister Louis Farrakhan visited after the earthquake and donated a water treatment facility on behalf of the Nation of Islam. Emperor Haile Selassie was overthrown in 1974 and it is reported that he was killed, however the Rastafarianism movement (primarily out of Jamaica) believe him to be the Messiah and have shared reports of him still being alive.

Minister Farrakhan was the convener of the historic Million Man March in 1995 where nearly two million Black men attended, and he has also taken Masonic rites like one of the Haitian revolution forefathers-Toussaint Louverture. In 1981 Minister Farrakhan made a bold claim during his Saviors Day speech that Elijah Muhammad was physically alive and that he was on the mother wheel up in the sky above our heads with his teacher Master Fard Muhammad. While Minister Farrakhan was mocked then, the retorts fell quiet during the 2023 Unidentified Aerial Phenomena Congressional Hearing and when United States President Donald Trump created an additional military branch called the Space Force. Minister Farrakhan has stated that the Mother Wheel follows him wherever he goes, and that the wheel is described in the book of Ezekiel Chapter 1.

“The Most Honorable Elijah Muhammad is still alive and the same wheel that follows Minister Farrakhan backs me. Just as the wheel follows him wherever he goes, there is a squadron of baby planes that follow me wherever I go. Minister Louis Farrakhan has been my teacher for twenty years and he gave me my assignment during the Nubian Leadership Council- to be a “Black Church Revivalist”, so I and the Zion Church of the Evangelical Association are calling all Haitians and Haitian Americans, and evangelists to help in Haiti’s rise. Every new moon of 2024 will bring in an increase of blessings for Haiti and Haitians, and every Full Moon will mark the waning away of the powers of the exploiters, traitors, and corruptors of Haiti.”

Holy Day of Atonement and a visit to the Shriners International Headquarters in Tampa, Florida

In the opening of the Honorable Minister Farrakhan's address on the Holy Day of Atonement, at the Tampa, Florida, Convention Center on October 17, 2010, he spoke about the beauty of the city of Tampa and its buildings which are located alongside the magnificent Tampa Bay Harbors. However, he sadly spoke about the deplorable conditions of its Black populace, in particular, lying in ruins. As he was speaking, I pictured in my mind scenes of the Nile Valley in Egypt housing magnificent buildings and temples while its slave population was living in the muck and mire of degradation being at the bottom rung of the aristocratic rulers and elite Egyptian society. Those scenes are described in the Bible's Book of Exodus giving us a picture of what we look like today in modern Egypt (America).

o   If the president signs the bill, it becomes a law. Laws are also known as Acts of Congress. Statute is another word that is used interchangeably with law.

o   An act is a part of a play defined by elements such as rising action, climax, and resolution. A scene normally represents actions happening in one place at one time, and is marked off from the next scene by a curtain, a black-out, or a brief emptying of the stage.

o   take action; do something.; "they urged Washington to act"

o   behave in the way specified. "they followed the man who was seen acting suspiciously"

o   take effect; have a particular effect. "blood samples are analyzed to find out how the drug acts in the body"

o   perform a fictional role in a play, movie, or television production. "she acted in her first professional role at the age of six"

These acts or actions of physical work, effort, writing, speaking, and doing the work of uplifting fallen humanity give us some insight into the direction planned for the MDNM and the MSTA by Prophet Noble Drew Ali and the Great God Allah.

Preach with Zeal about these acts, then plan and work to produce the intended result of the act, in modern day and time; mass and energy traveling through space and  time in the present!

These acts happened when Prophet Noble Drew Ali was physically alive in the 1920s. It is now over 100 years later.

Study and Follow these acts and find success in the Moorish Divine and National Movement.

 

Acts (1-7)

 

      I.         Preach and Promote Economic Security and a Doctrine of Economic Security.

 

"In connection with our religious aims and beliefs, we must promote economic security. The preaching of economic security among us is by no means as widespread and intensive as the circumstances demand. No other one thing is more needed among us at this time than greater economic power.

 

Better positions for our men and women, more business employment for our boys and girls and bigger incomes will follow our economic security. We shall be secure in nothing until we have economic power. A beggar people cannot develop the highest in them, nor can they attain a genuine enjoyment of the spiritualities of life."

     II.            Be Industrious

“The industrious acts of the Moslems of the northwest and southwest Africa. These are the Moabites, Hamathites, Canaanites, who were driven out of the land of Canaan, by Joshua, and received permission from the Pharoahs of Egypt to settle in that portion of Egypt. In later years they formed kingdoms. These kingdoms are called this day Morocco, Algiers, Tunis, Tripoli, etc.”

  III.            Have Press, Media, News, Communications, Broadcasting, etc.

“The greatest weapon in the hands of our group today in America is our press.”

The prophet also launched a publishing company, which also provided jobs and business opportunities for those of part of the Moorish American community.

 

  IV.            Have and Use an Upliftment Fund

“It is through the faithful Moors that contribute to the Movement and Uplifting Funds. The ones that paid their divine respect to me and the movement will be remembered. That is why I’m calling upon all faithful Moors to increase their faithfulness to me your profit and your divine Moorish movement. I need financing I needed bad. Never before have I needed finance as badly as I do at present, that I may shove aside the discord that is facing the nation. It all comes to jealousy because of my “fame and nobility.””

    V.            Have Our Own Town

Notice to all Moors!

“Write a letter to the supreme business manager, 3140 Indiana Ave., Chicago, IL, and let him know what you think of the Moors having their own town, own Mayor, alderman, chief of police, judges, City Hall, own temples, own lands, own houses, own parks and business establishments.”

  VI.            Have a Grand Treasurer

“We Moors must maintain a grand Treasurer., just as in the days of our forefathers; then you are a nation.”

  VII.            Be Political

The First National Convention of 1928 in Chicago was attended by many prominent citizens and politicians. The Moorish Science Temple of America had members that ran and held public office. The Prophet attended an Illinois Governor Inauguration arriving by train.
